Use all the available water
Use rainwater and greywater for your garden. Water your plants in the morning and evening to minimise evaporation, and do this using water-efficient devices such as trigger nozzles and irrigation timers.
The spreading of mulch – made from leaves, newspapers, bark, wood, straw or any other organic matter – can reduce your water use by up to 70%.
Try to water your garden – and especially your lawn – deeply but less frequently. This means the water can penetrate deep into the soil to reach the roots, and encourages your plants to develop more robust root systems.
